Elaine Kamarck, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and a member of the Democratic National Committee, stated in an interview with Reuters: "About 4,000 Democratic delegates have firmly supported Joe Biden's candidacy for the upcoming presidential election in November. These delegates are now set to select and nominate their party's candidate to compete against Donald Trump at the Democratic National Convention, which will be held from August 19 to 22." Kamarck believes that Kamala Harris, who is at the top of the list to replace Biden, will face a "difficult start" and "specific challenges" due to her "low odds" in polls. She added that about 4,672 delegates, including 3,933 "committed delegates" and 739 so-called "superdelegates," are senior members of the Democratic Party, and a candidate must secure the most votes from these delegates. However, if no one achieves a majority, a "brokered convention" will be formed where delegates will negotiate and vote with the party leadership.
