Preparation of '20 Pages' from the Final Agreement between Iran and the 1+5 Group

Abbas Araghchi, a senior member of Iran's nuclear negotiation team, has stated that '20 pages' of the final agreement regarding Iran's nuclear program have been prepared, which pertain to nuclear activities, 'the lifting of sanctions on Iran and its timeline.' According to the news agency 'House of the Nation,' affiliated with the Islamic Consultative Assembly, this information was reported by Hossein Naqavi Hosseini, spokesman for the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Parliament, citing Mr. Araghchi, who attended a session of this commission on Sunday, May 20. Based on this report, Abbas Araghchi mentioned in this session that 'we still have tough negotiations ahead... and there are still contentious issues in the annexes.' Meanwhile, Ali Akbar Salehi, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, said on Sunday that negotiations between Iran and the 1+5 group have 'progressed well.' According to the Mehr news agency, he added: 'Let me say today that the other side has started to backtrack on some issues we had reached an understanding on, but I am confident that the negotiations will ultimately yield results.' 'Under the Additional Protocol, managed access for environmental sampling is defined.' According to the spokesman for the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Parliament, Abbas Araghchi also stated in this commission session that 'no one can visit our military sites. Sampling has meaning and is clearly defined.' He emphasized: 'Under the Additional Protocol, managed access for environmental sampling is what it is; therefore, the notion that inspections would allow access to military sites is incorrect.' Mr. Araghchi, on the evening of Tuesday, May 15, did not rule out the possibility of inspections of Iran's military sites, stating that 'potential' inspections would be 'managed' based on the Additional Protocol of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Ali Akbar Salehi, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, also mentioned on Tuesday, May 7, that 'inspectors can sample from areas surrounding non-nuclear facilities based on the Additional Protocol.' Meanwhile, Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, said on Friday, May 18, that in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, 'there has been no discussion' of access to military sites, but Iran has defined a 'framework' for 'a series of information and access' in response to the 'requests' of Western countries. The statements of these Iranian officials come at a time when Iranian military officials had previously described inspections of military sites as a red line and emphasized that they would not allow inspections of these sites.
