President Trump: Anything Less Than U.S. Control Over Greenland is 'Unacceptable'

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, emphasized that anything less than U.S. control over Greenland is 'unacceptable,' stating that the U.S. needs this Arctic region for national security reasons. He made this statement on Wednesday, January 24, just hours before a White House meeting between G.D. Vance, the U.S. Vice President, and Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, with diplomats from Greenland and Denmark. Trump wrote on the social media platform 'Truth Social' about Greenland: 'NATO must pave the way for us to achieve it. If we don't do this, Russia or China will, and that cannot happen! Militarily, without the immense power of the United States - much of which I built during my first term and am now elevating to a new and even higher level - NATO will not be an effective force or deterrent and won't even come close to that!' He concluded his remarks by saying: 'They know this, and so do I. With Greenland in U.S. hands, NATO becomes much stronger and more effective. Anything less than this is unacceptable.' Trump made this statement just before negotiations between Vance and Rubio with Lars Løkke Rasmussen, the Danish Foreign Minister, and Vivian Motzfeldt, his Greenlandic counterpart, aimed at resolving the dispute over the White House's intention to annex Greenland to the United States. Greenland has been under Danish control for centuries. On Tuesday, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, the Prime Minister of Greenland, said at a press conference alongside Mette Frederiksen, the Prime Minister of Denmark, 'If we have to choose between the United States and Denmark here and now, we choose Denmark. We choose NATO. We choose the Kingdom of Denmark. We choose the European Union.' The United States has a military presence on the island, and Denmark has stated that the U.S. can bolster its forces whenever it wants to prevent any potential threats from Russia and China.
