Perimeter wall of Ramhormoz Prison, Iran In a widespread display of defiance, political prisoners across 56 different prisons in Iran launched a coordinated hunger strike on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. Marking the 118th consecutive week of the “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign, the activists released a poignant statement condemning the regime’s latest surge in capital punishment and its “war footing” against civil society.
Condemning “Wartime Discretion” The campaign’s statement sharply criticized the Iranian regime’s judiciary for using heightened regional and domestic tensions as a pretext to accelerate executions and strip detainees of their basic rights.
“We are aware that the instructions from the senior officials of the ruling religious tyranny, based on a ‘war footing,’ have further opened the hands of the Judiciary to violate the rights of those detained in the January protests and the recent conflict.”
The activists noted that this directive effectively leads to “the denial of all legal rights and the issuance of heavy sentences without fair and just trials.”

Accusations of Crimes Against Humanity The campaign honored three protesters recently executed—Amir-Ali Mirjafari, Erfan Kiani, and Amer Ramesh—while highlighting the “cruel and anti-human rights policies” of the state. Specifically, the statement focused on the authorities’ refusal to return the bodies of the executed to their families.
“Undoubtedly, the policy of enforced disappearance adopted by the government is an example of a crime against humanity.”
Abuse Within the Prison System Reports from the 56 participating facilities, including Evin, Qezel Hesar, and Adelabad, detailed a systematic increase in prisoner abuse. The statement cited “shameless and inhumane behavior” by prison guards, including:
“Beating, torture, and desecration of dignity.”
“Forced shaving of heads, verbal abuse, and insults.”

A Call for Global Intervention As the Iranian regime maintains a climate of fear through “daily executions,” the campaign stressed that the Iranian people are viewed by the state as the “primary enemy.” The prisoners appealed to the international community to break the silence imposed by internet blackouts.
“It is very important and essential that in these volatile and decisive days, the freedom-loving people of Iran and all ‘No to Execution’ activists do not remain silent against the government’s suppression and act as the voice of the captives in prison and those sentenced to death.”
The statement concluded with a demand for the UN Fact-Finding Mission to take “serious action” by visiting Iranian detention centers and pressuring the government to halt the execution machine.
