Prolonged Proceedings in the Case of Labor Activist Sentenced to Death; Concerns Raised by the Campaign to Defend Sharifeh Mohammadi

The Campaign to Defend Sharifeh Mohammadi, a labor activist sentenced to death, expressed its deep concerns on Saturday, September 31, regarding the prolonged proceedings in her case at the Supreme Court. The campaign condemned the security and judicial threats against labor, professional, and civil activists, stating that the 'delay and neglect' in Sharifeh Mohammadi's case is 'a manifestation of the continued torture of the prisoner and her family.' The campaign, formed by several family members of this imprisoned labor activist in Lakan Prison in Rasht, called for the annulment of the death sentence and the removal of all charges against Ms. Mohammadi, as well as her unconditional release. Sharifeh Mohammadi was arrested in December of last year and sentenced to death on July 14, 1403, by the Revolutionary Court of Rasht on charges of 'baghi' (rebellion). This sentence was issued based on allegations from the Ministry of Intelligence of the Islamic Republic regarding Ms. Mohammadi's membership in 'Komala,' which has been vehemently denied by Ms. Mohammadi, her husband Siros Fathi, and the Komala Party. Previously, the Campaign to Defend Sharifeh Mohammadi reported that she had been tortured while in detention at the Ministry of Intelligence's facility in Sanandaj. A large number of human rights, labor, and professional activists in Iran, as well as international human rights organizations and labor unions, have condemned the death sentence for Ms. Mohammadi. In one of the latest reactions, Amnesty International criticized the death sentence issued for this imprisoned labor activist on September 20, deeming her trial 'extremely unfair' and emphasizing that the political prisoner's allegations of torture and mistreatment have 'never been investigated.'
