Promises Trump Fulfilled in His First Year

As Donald Trump's presidency approaches its one-year mark, media outlets have examined his record over the past year. The Associated Press reported that despite some challenges in his first 100 days, Trump has managed to implement a significant portion of his campaign promises during his first year in the White House and has advanced others to some extent. The report highlights the passage of tax reform as one of his most important achievements in his first year. The Associated Press noted that Trump was able to enact tax reform, the most historic legislation he has managed to pass in Congress; appoint his preferred conservative judge to the Supreme Court; nominate dozens of federal judges to the Senate; and, as promised during his campaign, withdraw the United States from international agreements (such as the Paris Agreement). The tax reform is referred to as the largest tax change in America in the past 30 years. The U.S. withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement was another fulfillment of his campaign promises, which elicited reactions from several countries around the world. When the U.S. exited the Paris Agreement on June 11, Trump stated, "From today, the United States will cease to implement all non-binding provisions of the Paris Agreement and the heavy financial and economic costs that this agreement imposes on our country." The Wall Street Journal also reported on January 16 that the U.S. stock market has reached record highs during Trump's presidency, attributed to a series of business-friendly policies, stable revenues for large companies, and global economic growth. The Associated Press also pointed out Trump's failure to fulfill his promise to repeal the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare. The report added that he has yet to compel the Mexican government to pay for the construction of the border wall. The Associated Press further referenced Trump's executive order banning citizens from several predominantly Muslim countries from entering the U.S. This executive order initially faced opposition from federal courts, but ultimately the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of the implementation of Trump's third order in this regard. In this context, the Supreme Court allowed Trump's immigration order to be fully implemented.
