Protest by Political Prisoners in Lakan Prison Following Transfer of Two Women to Intelligence Office

The news channel 'Bidar Zani' reported on the protest by political female prisoners in Lakan Prison in Rasht following the transfer of two women’s rights activists held in this prison to the Intelligence Office. According to this women’s rights-focused media outlet, intelligence agents entered the women’s political ward of Lakan Prison on Wednesday, August 15, and transferred two of them 'for interrogation and some explanations' to the Rasht Intelligence Office. No information has yet been released regarding the identities of these two female prisoners. As reported by 'Bidar Zani', the supervising judge in the prison did not respond to the women present in the political ward of Lakan Prison, and they protested against the actions of the intelligence agents by staging a sit-in at the office of the prison guard. Following the imprisonment sentences of 11 women’s rights activists in Gilan, all of these activists were transferred to Lakan Prison in July of this year. Additionally, five women activists from Gilan in the media and environmental fields have recently been sentenced to a total of over 20 years and seven months of prison time.
