The news agency stated that a video circulated on social media showing protesters in the city of Hamedan shouting 'Death to the Islamic Republic.' Another video showed protesters fleeing after open gunfire from security forces. Following these reports, the Tasnim news agency, affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards, published a report claiming that Hamedan was calm. Human rights groups, including the Hrana news agency, reported the detention of several protesters in various cities, including Saqez and Sanandaj. Meanwhile, the Iranian Minister of Intelligence warned that Iran might take actions against foreign media that Tehran accuses of inciting protests in the country. Reuters further reported that U.S. President Joe Biden, on Friday, commemorated the anniversary of Mahsa Amini's death, stating that she inspired a historic movement that impacted Iran and people worldwide. Hundreds gathered on Saturday in front of the White House for this occasion. Additionally, Senator Robert Menendez, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued a statement on the first anniversary of 'the brutal beating and killing of Mahsa Jina Amini by the Iranian regime,' calling for the international community to hold the Islamic Republic accountable. Senator Menendez noted that Iranians from 'Tehran to Mahabad and Isfahan' took to the streets in over 133 cities and all provinces to defend their compatriots, their lives, and their freedoms. He stated that despite the regime's deliberate blinding of protesters, the use of military-grade ammunition, and the issuance of death sentences, the people of Iran continued to protest daily, exposing themselves to threats of intimidation, violence, imprisonment, and death. This prominent Democratic senator added that the international community owes it to the people of Iran to ensure that the Islamic Republic is not allowed to evade accountability for the crimes committed during its brutal crackdown. According to Robert Menendez, as the Islamic Republic continues to suppress the brave people of Iran, the international community owes full support to the Iranian people. Jim Risch, a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, also emphasized his renewed support for the people of Iran on the first anniversary of Mahsa's 'murder.' This prominent Republican senator stated that alongside the release of Iranian funds by the Biden administration, further actions must be taken to hold the 'regime' accountable for serious human rights violations and support for terrorism.
