Protests in Several Cities Worldwide in Support of Tomaj Salehi

On Saturday, July 8, streets and main squares in several cities around the world witnessed gatherings and protests by Iranians in support of Tomaj Salehi, the imprisoned protest singer, and other protesters in the country. In Hamburg, protesters and opponents of the Islamic Republic marched to the main square chanting 'Free political prisoners' while coinciding with the 'trial of Tomaj Salehi.' They shouted the name 'Tomaj Salehi' to express solidarity with domestic protesters and draw global attention to the repression and executions carried out by the Islamic Republic over the past ten months. In London, a placard read 'Tomaj's life is in danger,' as Iranian demonstrators gathered once again to support Salehi and demand the freedom of all political prisoners. Tomaj Salehi, a critic of the Islamic Republic and a political prisoner, has been incarcerated since December 8 of last year. Reports indicate that he has been tortured and faces the death penalty. In Rome, a human rights seminar titled 'For Iranian Fighters' was held by the Radical Party of Italy, featuring a speech by Alireza Akhundi, a Swedish parliament member of Iranian descent, in support of Iranian protesters. The Radical Party of Italy has supported these protesters since the beginning of the Mahsa Jina Amini uprising, organizing over 37 demonstrations in front of the Islamic Republic's embassy in Italy. Some members of this party have gone on hunger strikes to support the Iranian people and condemn the execution of protesters by the Islamic Republic. In Canada, Iranians in Montreal expressed their support for Tomaj Salehi, while Jonathan Wilkinson, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, took on the political asylum case of Tomaj Salehi, following the efforts of Iranian activists in Vancouver.
