On Tuesday, during a United Nations Security Council meeting, the United States reiterated its readiness to enter formal negotiations with the Islamic Republic, stating that this path is only possible if Tehran accepts direct dialogue, halts its uranium enrichment program, and takes Donald Trump’s diplomatic hand. Morgan Ortagus, the US representative at the UN, clearly articulated Washington's position at the meeting, saying that diplomacy remains available but under specific conditions. He emphasized, 'We want to clearly announce to the world that the United States is still ready for formal dialogue with Iran, but only if Tehran is prepared for a direct and meaningful dialogue. Direct and meaningful.' He added that a complete halt to uranium enrichment within Iran is Washington's main precondition for any negotiations. He stated, 'First and foremost, no enrichment should take place within Iran; and this is our principle.' The representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran rejected the US proposal, holding the United States responsible for the current crisis and declaring Washington's unilateral withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear agreement and the re-imposition of sanctions as the main cause of the current deadlock. However, Ortagus pointed out that this policy has continued during both terms of the Trump administration, emphasizing that the then-President of the United States extended a hand of friendship towards Tehran multiple times. He said, 'In both administrations, President Trump extended a diplomatic hand towards Iran, but instead of accepting this diplomatic hand, you kept your hand in the fire.
