Qatar's Representative at the United Nations Calls for a Sustainable Ceasefire in Gaza

Qatar's representative at the United Nations described the situation in Gaza as horrific following a closed-door Security Council meeting, calling for an end to the bloodshed and the establishment of a sustainable ceasefire in the region. He emphasized that Qatar continues to pursue humanitarian pauses in the Israel-Palestine conflict and has made significant efforts to push towards a sustainable ceasefire. He stated, "Gaza is facing hell, and we must prevent it." The Qatari representative elaborated that a sustainable ceasefire is what they hope to achieve, aiming to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians and protect civilians. According to him, the focus of the closed-door Security Council meeting was on humanitarian aid to Gaza, with a priority on increasing UN coordination and the distribution of aid for the welfare of Palestinian civilians. Qatar insists on following a step-by-step approach that leads to the improvement of the situation for the people of Gaza. Just hours earlier, Qatar announced that the ceasefire between Israeli forces and Hamas in Gaza would be extended for another two days. Qatar plays a mediating role in the ceasefire negotiations. A spokesperson for Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on social media platform X, "An agreement has been reached to extend the humanitarian ceasefire for two days in the Gaza Strip." Joe Biden welcomed the extension of the ceasefire in Gaza. Qatar: The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has been extended for two more days. On the second day of the exchange, 17 Hamas hostages and 39 Palestinian prisoners were released. Biden: I will continue to work for the release of all hostages. Israel received the names of the second group of hostages for release. The process of releasing Hamas hostages began; 13 Israelis and 12 Thais were released on the first day. Biden expressed hope that a three-year-old American girl would be among those released.
