Rafiq Salimi, imprisoned labor activist, deprived of medical treatment and leave

The human rights organization "Hangaw" reported a reduction in the sentence of Rafiq Salimi, a labor activist and one of the detainees of the "Women, Life, Freedom" movement, from 10 years to 9 years, while simultaneously noting his "lack of access to treatment and leave." On Thursday, October 5, Hangaw wrote that Mr. Salimi has been deprived of his right to leave and medical care during his detention at the Intelligence Department and Central Prison of Sanandaj, despite suffering from multiple physical illnesses. According to the report, this labor activist has been subjected to the most severe physical and psychological torture during his 50 days of detention at the Intelligence Department of Sanandaj. In recent years, reports have emerged regarding the torture of labor and trade activists in the detention centers of the Islamic Republic's Intelligence Department in Sanandaj, with Mahmoud Salehi and Sharifeh Mohammadi being notable cases. Hangaw emphasized that Rafiq Salimi suffered injuries to his shoulder and ear during his detention. He was arrested in Azar 1401 (December 2022) and transferred to the Central Prison of Sanandaj after more than 50 days of detention. This labor activist was sentenced to 10 years in prison on charges of "forming illegal groups and acting against national security" and "corruption on earth." Typically, the security and judicial apparatus of the Islamic Republic fabricates cases against labor and trade activists by imposing security charges, which ultimately leads to prison sentences and even lashes. In this context, the death sentence issued for Sharifeh Mohammadi, a labor activist convicted of "rebellion" in the Revolutionary Court of Rasht, can also be mentioned.
