Raha Bahreini: Mr. Soltani's Imprisonment is a Great Injustice

Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, condemned human rights violations in Iran once again in his latest report to the Human Rights Council on Tuesday. The report states that Iran continues to severely restrict freedom of opinion and expression. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights mentioned that his office has received numerous reports from human rights defenders, journalists, and social media activists who have been arrested and detained. Raha Bahreini from Amnesty International, in an interview with Radio Farda, referred to all the issues raised in the UN High Commissioner's report and emphasized that these are matters that Amnesty International has consistently highlighted in its annual reports. Ms. Bahreini also spoke about the detention of Raheleh Rahimi Pour, stating that she has been trying for years to uncover the circumstances of the disappearance of her brother and her young nephew, who disappeared in the early 1980s while in Evin Prison. Ms. Rahimi Pour was sentenced to one year in prison in the winter of 2016 for these efforts and is awaiting the verdict of the appeals court. Ms. Bahreini described the imprisonment of Abdolfattah Soltani, a lawyer, as unjust and added that it is regrettable that Mr. Soltani has spent the last six years in prison.
