Rahana Korkor Released on Bail from Evin Prison

Negar Korkor, sister of political prisoner sentenced to death, Mujahid Korkor, announced on Saturday, August 20, the release of her sister, Rahana Korkor, from Evin Prison in Tehran. Negar Korkor wrote on social media platform 'X': 'My sister Rahana has been released on bail...' In another post, she stated: 'My sister's release, alongside the confirmation of my brother's death sentence by the Supreme Court, the lack of attention to the retrial request, and the shocking execution of Reza Rasayi, has multiplied our fear of my brother's sudden execution.' Negar Korkor, on behalf of the Mujahid Korkor family, urged the 'noble nation of Iran' not to allow 'another innocent person' to be executed. Meanwhile, 'Hrana', the news agency of the Iranian Human Rights Activists, reported on Saturday that Ms. Korkor's release was secured with a bail of 1.5 billion tomans and a guarantee of 150 million tomans for two separate cases. Rahana Korkor was arrested on July 14 by the forces of the Islamic Republic at her home in Pakdasht. After the interrogation, she was transferred to the women's ward of Evin Prison. This political defendant is facing two separate cases in the Pakdasht prosecutor's office. According to Hrana, another part of this political defendant's case will be reviewed in the criminal court, based on an interview with her lawyer, Payam Darfashan, with 'Emtidad'. Hrana added that this lawyer had stated that a 'wide range of criminal items were found at the shared residence of his client, which, although not belonging to her, he claims as his own due to concerns for the situation of her young children being left alone, and the responsible party has remained silent and is taking advantage of the situation.' Rahana Korkor, sister of Abbas (Mujahid) Korkor, is among those arrested during the nationwide protests and sentenced to death in Shiban Prison in Ahvaz. The death sentence was confirmed by the Supreme Court late last year, and the case was referred to the execution branch of the Izeh court. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has expressed concern over executions in Iran. The Iranian Human Rights Campaign reported that 17 female prisoners were injured during an attack by the Evin guards. Reza Rasayi, one of the detainees from the 2021 protests, was executed; his body was buried under security measures in a location far from the city. Pressure continues on the families seeking justice; Maryam Mehrabi is on hunger strike in prison, and a billion-toman bail has been set for Rahana Korkor.
