Re-summoning of Pirouz Nami, Teachers' Union Activist in Khuzestan, to the Revolutionary Court

According to news sources, Pirouz Nami, the secretary of the Khuzestan Teachers' Union, has been summoned to the Revolutionary Court in Ahvaz on charges including 'collusion and conspiracy against national security', 'propaganda against the regime', 'forming a group', and 'disturbing public order'. The court session for Nami has been scheduled for November 7. According to the Coordinating Council of Iranian Teachers' Trade Unions, Nami has previously been summoned to court multiple times and has spent several months in solitary confinement. This labor activist has been active since 2001 and was arrested by the IRGC in 2018, enduring a month of interrogation and 'torture in solitary confinement', ultimately being acquitted in that case. He was also arrested again in 2022 following the Mahsa Amini protests, where he announced a strike and supported the protests, spending 24 days in solitary confinement under interrogation by the IRGC. Nami has been sentenced by security forces in several cases to various terms including 2 years, 3 months, and 91 days of imprisonment and suspension from work, but he was acquitted upon appeal in all cases. In 2023, security forces raided his home, confiscating personal belongings of him and his family, leading to the opening of three new cases against him, one of which resulted in a 6-month prison sentence. According to the Coordinating Council of Iranian Teachers' Trade Unions, the second case from this series is currently awaiting court proceedings. In recent years, administrative, security, and judicial actions against teachers and their union activists have intensified, drawing criticism from labor unions and federations worldwide. At the end of October this year, the Coordinating Council condemned the continuation of repressive policies against union activists, emphasizing that the current government, despite coming to power without the support of the majority of the people, is obligated to fulfill its promises based on the constitution.
