Reactions Against Attack by Islamic Republic Supporters on Protesters in London: UK Government Must Act Against Attackers

Supporters of the Islamic Republic attacked a group of protesters during a memorial ceremony for Ebrahim Raisi at Wembley in London, leading to protests from several Iranian civil and political activists. In this context, Masih Alinejad, a journalist and political activist opposing the Islamic Republic, called for action from the UK government and police against the attackers. According to the Metropolitan Police, four people were lightly injured in the altercation, and one person was arrested on suspicion of causing a disturbance and violence. Reports indicate that the clash occurred outside the venue of the event, prompting police and emergency services to be dispatched to the scene. Alinejad noted on social media platform 'X' that supporters of the Islamic Republic violently attacked opponents, injuring several, including a female protester. She emphasized that this incident has deeply affected the Iranian community and has sparked anger towards the British government's negligence regarding the actions of the Islamic Republic. Alinejad stated that Iranians are demanding immediate and decisive action from the UK government and police to counter this attack. She also pointed out that Britain was known for its order and law, but now thugs from the Islamic Republic are attacking innocent citizens while British officials do nothing. The journalist remarked that these thugs behave as if they are still in Iran, attacking peaceful demonstrators, including a defenseless woman, and stressed that it is time for the British government to take action against them. Nazanin Boniadi, a human rights activist and artist, also commented on social media about the 'criminal behavior of Islamic Republic supporters against their opponents in Britain,' suggesting that one can only imagine how they behave in Iran where everything is controlled. Ladan Bazargan, from the families of the victims of the 1980s and a member of the Revolutionary Justice Seekers Council, wrote on X: 'The regime's thugs attacking Iranians who were shouting the names of political prisoners behind the regime's embassy walls shows the importance of our efforts abroad.' She added, 'The regime and its minor and major players are not accustomed to civil resistance and freedom of expression and think they can silence any voice.' Meanwhile, the London police announced that investigations are ongoing and urged witnesses to provide their information to the police. Previously, videos circulated on social media showing the organizers of the memorial ceremony for the former Islamic Republic president attacking individuals who had gathered to hold a protest outside the event.
