Release of Documents Related to the Assassination of John F. Kennedy

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has announced that after the latest intelligence reviews, he intends to release classified documents from the U.S. government regarding the assassination of John F. Kennedy. If the review by intelligence agencies does not prevent it, these documents are set to be released this Thursday. The Independent newspaper states in its opinion section that revelations from the last surviving individual related to this assassination could be explosive. This individual, named Antonio Vecina, 88 years old, has revealed significant points in his memoir about the most mysterious incident of contemporary times. The book, titled 'Trained to Kill,' was co-authored with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Carlos Harrison and published earlier this year, containing documents and memories of Antonio Vecina regarding CIA conspiracies against John F. Kennedy, Fidel Castro, and Ernesto Che Guevara. Antonio Vecina was among the Cuban opponents of Fidel Castro's regime who found himself at the center of very sensitive events in contemporary American history. These include CIA operations against Fidel Castro, anti-communist and covert activities in Latin America, and a meeting between a senior CIA official and Lee Harvey Oswald, the assassin of John F. Kennedy, before the assassination took place. After fleeing to America with CIA support in 1963, Vecina formed a group called Alpha 66. This group's claim of attacking a Soviet ship in Cuban waters made headlines and brought it fame. According to Richard Helms, who later became the head of the CIA, the Kennedy brothers were active in efforts to overthrow Fidel Castro's regime, but John F. Kennedy was not in favor of a military occupation of Cuba even at the height of the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1961, ultimately reaching an agreement with Nikita Khrushchev, the leader of the Soviet Union, not to attack Cuba in exchange for the withdrawal of Soviet nuclear missiles. These positions led individuals like Antonio Vecina, other Cuban opponents of Castro's regime, and their officials in the CIA, who had a strong animosity towards communism, to become very dissatisfied with John F. Kennedy. Hardline factions in the Pentagon and the political-industrial complex of U.S. defense believed that coexistence with a communist neighbor was impossible. Antonio Vecina claims that in September 1963, just two months before John F. Kennedy's assassination, he witnessed his CIA superior (using the alias Maurice Bishop) meeting with a slender young man who introduced himself as 'Lee.' Two months later, after images of Lee Harvey Oswald were published on the day of John F. Kennedy's assassination, Antonio Vecina recognized this individual's true identity. He decided never to mention that meeting or speak about it. Years later, when Gaeton Fonzi, a member of the congressional investigation into political assassinations, finally found Antonio Vecina, he only told him he was researching the contacts of Cuban immigrants with American intelligence and security agencies. Gaeton Fonzi later wrote in his book 'The Last Investigations' that during that meeting, Antonio Vecina shared everything he knew with him and explained about his superior's meeting with Lee Harvey Oswald. Mr. Fonzi writes in his book that while hearing this information, he tried to maintain his composure and not fall off his chair, as Antonio Vecina confirmed with his evidence the long-held suspicion that there was a direct connection between the CIA and the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Gaeton Fonzi continued his investigations and discovered the true identity of Vecina's superior in the CIA. Based on evidence he obtained, this individual, whose real name was David Atlee Phillips, was responsible for operations against Castro's regime and later promoted to manage the CIA's Western Europe division. In a pre-arranged meeting, Gaeton Fonzi confronted Antonio Vecina with Atlee Phillips, but the senior CIA official, who was retired at the time, denied any recognition or cooperation with Vecina, even though Vecina was the head of one of the significant and effective groups in sabotage and operations against Cuba. The results of the congressional investigations into political assassinations in the 1960s and 1970s, published in 1979, concluded that based on recorded conversations, two individuals were likely involved in the conspiracy to assassinate John F. Kennedy. This contradicted the findings of the previous Warren Commission, which only referred to a single shooter. However, the congressional investigations could not identify the second individual. In any case, in the coming days, if security agencies do not prevent it, documents related to the assassination of John F. Kennedy will be released, and even if security agencies oppose it, the final decision will rest with President Trump, who sees himself as a champion of the fight against government secrecy. The countdown has begun.
