Renewed Clashes Among Palestinians in Southern Lebanon Leave 10 Dead

In recent clashes between rival Palestinian groups in a refugee camp in southern Lebanon, 10 people have been killed and dozens more injured. The Ain al-Hilweh camp has been affected by factional fighting between the mainstream Palestinian movement Fatah and armed Islamist individuals since late July. In the first round of clashes, more than 12 people were killed. According to Reuters, two Palestinian sources in the camp reported that in the fighting that resumed a few days ago after a month-long ceasefire, at least 10 people have been killed so far. Six of them were Fatah militants and two others were armed Islamists. A Lebanese security source and two Palestinian sources stated that two other deceased individuals were also civilians. Five Lebanese army soldiers were injured during the Palestinian clashes, with one reported to be in critical condition. According to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, Ain al-Hilweh is the largest camp among the 12 Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon, hosting about 80,000 of the 250,000 Palestinians across Lebanon. Tensions in Nablus followed a suicide attack by a Palestinian; four Israeli soldiers were injured in a homemade bomb explosion. An Israeli plane made an emergency landing in Jeddah; Netanyahu thanked Saudi officials for their warm reception.
