Report: About 10,000 Iranians Applied for Asylum in Germany in 2023

The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees in Germany reported that over 350,000 people, including 10,000 Iranians, applied for asylum in the country in 2023. According to this report, the majority of asylum seekers in Germany have come from Middle Eastern and African countries, with Iran ranking among the top ten countries of applicants. The data provided by the Federal Office indicates that approximately 10,000 Iranians registered their asylum applications in Germany in 2023. The published table shows that Syria had the highest number of applications, exceeding 100,000, followed by Turkey, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Iran among the top ten countries. More than one million people registered their asylum applications in the European Union in 2023, with Germany being the primary destination for asylum seekers by a significant margin. The data reveals that at least 352,000 asylum applications were registered in Germany last year, marking an increase of over 51% compared to the previous year. Increasing social and political restrictions, economic stagnation, livelihood issues, discrimination and injustice, internet filtering and restrictions, and widespread expulsion of professors and students from top universities have fueled a new wave of migration from Iran. The head of the Strategic Studies Center of the Islamic Republic of Iran believes that the root of migration in Iran is not economic; rather, people are migrating due to a lack of a clear vision for the future. Mostafa Zamaniyan stated on January 7 that today, if someone migrates to Germany, it is not to obtain a government position or to gain a business opportunity, but rather to not be in Iran, which he considers a very dangerous interpretation. According to Zamaniyan, the conditions for migration have become much more serious for the wealthy, business leaders, and those in the startup and technology sectors compared to ordinary people. The shortage of medicine and the inefficiency of government management have led to the phenomenon of 'asylum seeking by SMA patients' in other countries.
