Reports of Armed Conflict in Izeh and 'Suicide of One of the Protesters of 1401'

According to reports, an attack by security forces in Izeh on the hiding place of 'four protesters from the year 1401' escalated into an armed conflict, during which 'one of the protesters' named Abol Korkor committed suicide, and three others were 'injured and arrested.' Iranian media on Saturday evening, March 9, quoted Ramadan Garouyi, the police commander of Izeh, confirming this armed conflict. Several political activists and social media users have referred to Abol Korkor as one of the 'protesters of 1401' in Izeh, and the Islamic Republic's judiciary news agency also confirmed that he was a leader of the 'unrest of 1401 in Izeh and had been wanted since that year.' Prince Reza Pahlavi also shared an image of Abol Korkor, calling him 'a hero from the brave land of Izeh.' In a video that apparently was initially broadcast live on Instagram, four armed individuals are seen claiming that security forces threw tear gas into the house. In this video, which Radio Farda could not verify the time and place of, Abol Korkor, after shooting outside the house, says 'Goodbye Iran' and commits suicide. According to the Hengaw website, three others named Reza Abdollazadeh, Sohrab Ahmadieh, and Hossein Mehri were 'shot while preparing to surrender at their hiding place.' There is no news about the status of these three individuals. The police commander of Izeh only stated that several people were 'injured and arrested' and that another 'committed suicide.' This police official and also Iranian state media referred to these four individuals as 'criminals.' According to Hengaw and several social media users, the internet in the city of Izeh has been severely disrupted. Izeh County in Khuzestan Province was one of the centers of the 'Women, Life, Freedom' protests, and during a protest gathering on November 16, 1401, seven people, including 9-year-old Kian Pirfalak, were killed. Although the Pirfalak family has repeatedly stated that the shooting at their vehicle was carried out by government agents, the Islamic Republic's judiciary has introduced Abbas Korkori, known as Mojahid Korkor, as the shooter and has issued a death sentence for him. Human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, have pointed to the unfair trial process and his torture to obtain forced confessions.
