Reports on the 'Closure' of Turkish Airlines Office in Tehran

Following reports about the closure of the Turkish Airlines office in Tehran due to 'non-compliance with hijab regulations,' the Tehran prosecutor stated to reporters: 'No judicial order has been issued in this regard.' Meanwhile, the Tasnim news agency, close to the Revolutionary Guards, confirmed the 'closure' of the office on Tuesday, July 9, stating that the reason for this incident was a 'confrontation' between employees and police officers. On Monday, social media reports indicated that the Turkish Airlines office was closed due to the refusal of its employees to comply with mandatory hijab laws. According to Tasnim, after police officers visited the Turkish Airlines office for an initial warning regarding 'non-compliance with hijab' by its employees, the airline staff clashed with the police. Tasnim claimed that no business unit is closed for the first time due to non-compliance with mandatory hijab, attributing the closure to the confrontation with police. According to Tasnim's report, this office will reopen and be unsealed on Wednesday, July 10. The closure of the Turkish Airlines office occurred while Ibrahim Souzanchi, a member of the Supreme Cultural Revolution Council, noted that on Tuesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed hope for good relations during a phone conversation with Iran's elected president, Masoud Pezeshkian. He stated in a post on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, that the closure of the Turkish Airlines office occurred on the same day, writing: 'It must have been a coincidence.' This incident comes at a time when Mr. Pezeshkian had openly criticized the police's 'Noor' plan to reinstate morality patrols and enforce mandatory hijab during his election campaign debates and statements. However, opponents of participating in the presidential election argued that he would not have sufficient authority to end the crackdown on women opposing mandatory hijab. Since the emergence of the 'Women, Life, Freedom' protests and the widespread opposition of women to mandatory hijab, numerous reports have surfaced regarding the closure of dozens of shopping centers, shops, recreational and tourism centers, cafes, and even bookstores due to the presence of women without mandatory hijab.
