Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives Criticize Biden's '6 Billion Dollar Ransom' to the Islamic Republic; Congress to Take Action

On Thursday, October 6, Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives expressed their opposition to the continuation of the Biden administration's 'secret' diplomacy with the Islamic Republic and the 'ransom' of 6 billion dollars from the White House for the release of hostages. According to the Washington Free Beacon, 28 Republican representatives, including Darrell Issa, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, accused the Biden administration of being secretive about its diplomacy with Iran and withholding transparent reports from Congress. These representatives called on the Biden administration to present all signed agreements with Iran to Congress and to refrain from further lifting sanctions, emphasizing that releasing financial resources for controlling Iran allows the Islamic Republic to strengthen its illegal nuclear and ballistic missile programs and fund its terrorism. Darrell Issa stated, 'The Biden administration's approach to Iran has not been based on U.S. conditions but rather on continuous concessions, appeasement, and now billions in ransom for hostages, which has enriched the mullahs, taken Tehran out of isolation, and brought the Iran regime closer to the capability to produce nuclear weapons.' The Republicans in the House of Representatives emphasized that 'Congress does not accept the use of sanctions relief as a mechanism for paying ransom' and stated, 'Republicans will now monitor the Biden administration's communications and actions regarding the Islamic Republic of Iran more closely and will call senior officials to Congress for public hearings on closed-door diplomacy if necessary.' Meanwhile, Republican Senator Joni Ernst from Iowa also sharply criticized what she called 'the Biden administration's appeasement' towards the Islamic Republic during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing.
