Rescue of 100 People from Fire in a Mall in Tehran

On Tuesday, June 10, the spokesperson for Tehran Fire Department stated that following a fire in a four-story mall at the beginning of Lalehzar Street, firefighters rescued over 100 people. According to ISNA, Jalal Maleki explained how the fire started: At 14:33 today, the fire incident at the Labaf Mall located at Imam Khomeini Square at the beginning of Lalehzar Street was reported to emergency services. The incident site was a four-story mall with over 100 shops, where two storage rooms on the ground floor were located above two shops, covering an area of about 30 square meters. The spokesperson noted that these two storage rooms were filled with electrical and flammable materials, which caused thick smoke in the mall, especially on the basement and ground floors. Jalal Maleki further stated that firefighters could not access the fire's source, so one group of firefighters created an opening to the storage from the back of the mall and began extinguishing the fire, while another group entered the mall from a different direction to combat the flames. Fortunately, in the initial moments, firefighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading and completely extinguished it. The spokesperson for the Tehran Fire Department and Safety Services emphasized that more than 100 shopkeepers and citizens who had come to the mall for shopping were trapped among the flames and smoke, and firefighters transferred these individuals to the roof and then to the ground after fully extinguishing the fire. According to this fire department official, the firefighters completed their operation to extinguish the fire in the mall by 16:20. The spokesperson also mentioned that there were no injuries from this incident, but it caused 'heavy financial damage.'
