Reuters: An incendiary bomb was thrown at the British Embassy in Tehran on November 21, 2003. No one was harmed in the incident, and there was minimal damage. This attack coincided with suicide bombings against British targets that occurred on Thursday in Istanbul, resulting in 27 deaths, and these attacks were carried out without prior warnings, with no one claiming responsibility. A British diplomat told Reuters, 'We are in contact with Iranian officials and are assessing our security situation.' The incident occurred at 3:30 PM Tehran time (12 PM British time) at the back gate of the British Embassy complex in central Tehran. One diplomat noted that the incendiary device was thrown by an individual driving a Peykan car. He added, 'This incendiary device damaged the embassy gate and caused a small fire on both sides of the gate.' Iran is generally considered a low-risk country in the Middle East regarding the number of attacks on Western embassies, commercial centers, and individuals. However, the British Embassy has been the target of several other attacks this year, including four shooting incidents in August and September following the arrest of Iran's former ambassador to Argentina by Argentine authorities. Earlier this month, Britain rejected a request for the extradition of former ambassador Hadi Soleimanpour due to insufficient evidence regarding his involvement in the bombing of a Jewish center in Buenos Aires in 1994.
