This news comes as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility on Tuesday for firing hundreds of missiles towards Israel, stating that this was the 'first wave of ballistic and hypersonic missile attacks by the IRGC.' The statement indicated that this action was in response to the elimination of Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of Hamas. The statement, published by the IRGC-affiliated news agency 'Tasnim,' noted that 'this operation was approved by the Supreme National Security Council' of the Islamic Republic and was 'supported and backed by the Islamic Republic of Iran's Army and the Ministry of Defense.' In this context, U.S. President Joe Biden announced on Tuesday on the social media platform 'X' that he and his vice president convened a National Security meeting 'to discuss the Islamic Republic of Iran's imminent missile attack plans against Israel.' He added that they discussed 'how the United States is prepared to assist Israel in defending against these attacks and protecting American personnel in the region.' Hours before the IRGC's missile attack on Israel, the United States had warned about an 'imminent' attack by the Islamic Republic. According to the Israeli army, the missile attacks from the Islamic Republic on Israel 'did not result in casualties.' A French helicopter carrier was dispatched to the eastern Mediterranean.
