The Kingdom of Jordan has hired hundreds of American trainers for its army and is one of the few regional allies that conducts extensive training exercises with U.S. forces throughout the year. Since the onset of the Syrian conflict in 2011, Washington has spent hundreds of millions of dollars to assist Amman in establishing a comprehensive surveillance system known as the Border Security Program to prevent the infiltration of militias from Syria and Iraq. There are many unknowns about this base, including what types of weapons are stored there, whether air defense is utilized, and exactly what went wrong that led to the deaths of three American soldiers there.
