Reuters: UK's Report to the UN on an Active Nuclear Network Linked to Iran

On Thursday, April 29, Reuters reported that the UK informed the UN sanctions committee about the existence of an 'active network' supplying nuclear equipment 'linked to two sanctioned Iranian companies.' Reuters states that it has seen a 'confidential' report from this UN committee based on UK intelligence. This committee is responsible for monitoring the compliance of the Islamic Republic with UN sanctions. According to Reuters, the annual report from UN observers mentions that the UK notified the UN on April 20 of this year, ten days prior, about the existence of an 'active network supplying nuclear equipment.' The mentioned active network is connected to two Iranian companies that were already on the sanctions list: Iran Centrifuge Technology Company (TSA) and Kalaye Electric Company. These two Iranian companies are on the sanctions list due to suspicions of their involvement in Iran's 'prohibited' nuclear activities. Kalaye Electric is subject to UN Security Council sanctions, while Iran Centrifuge Technology Company is under US and EU sanctions. The Reuters report about an 'active network' supplying nuclear equipment for Iran comes at a time when the Islamic Republic's negotiating team is in New York continuing nuclear discussions. Iran and six world powers, including the US, Russia, China, France, and the UK, along with Germany (the 5+1 group), have until the end of June to resolve their differences regarding Tehran's nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions, and to sign a final agreement to clarify ambiguities related to this program. The parties have stated that they have begun drafting the final agreement text, which is set to resume on Thursday, April 29, in New York after a few days of pause.
