Reversal of Death Sentence for Mahmoud Mehrabi, Political Prisoner, by the Supreme Court of the Islamic Republic

Babak Farsani, a lawyer, announced on Sunday evening, October 7, the reversal of the death sentence for Mahmoud Mehrabi by the Supreme Court of the country and the referral of the case to a parallel branch for further review. He wrote in a post on X, 'The death sentence of my client Mahmoud Mehrabi, accused of corruption on earth, has been overturned thanks to the efforts of my esteemed colleagues and the assistance provided at the Supreme Court, and the case has been referred for re-examination to a parallel branch in the Revolutionary Court of Isfahan.' Mahmoud Mehrabi has been accused of publishing content related to what has been described as 'training in the use of homemade weapons, inciting the destruction of public property, provoking people to war and slaughter, and insulting sacred beliefs' during the nationwide protests of 2022. Some media outlets have previously reported that the main reason for the judicial system's action against this young man from Mobarakeh, who was first arrested on February 1, 2023, was his exposure of corruption among city officials, which led to the fabrication of charges against him.
