Review Process Begins for the Deportation of Five Islamic Republic Officials from Canada

Reports indicate that Canada's immigration department has begun the process of deporting five potential officials of the Islamic Republic living in the country. The Canada Border Services Agency states that these five individuals held high-ranking positions in the Islamic Republic government, which is why they have requested the Immigration and Refugee Board to hold hearings on this case. The Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada, or immigration court, is 'an independent administrative tribunal that makes legally binding decisions.' The case of these five potential senior officials of the Islamic Republic will be reviewed under the sanctions approved in 2022 by Canada. Following the death of Mahsa Amini in the custody of the morality police and the crackdown on protests in Iran, the Canadian government identified the Islamic Republic of Iran as a regime involved in 'terrorism and systematic and gross human rights violations.' At that time, the Canadian government also announced that it would deport officials of the Islamic Republic from the country. The Canadian immigration court had previously issued deportation orders for Salman Samani, the former deputy minister of the interior of Iran, and Majid Iranmanesh, a technology advisor to the Iranian vice president. Reports from Canadian media indicate that the hearings for these five individuals will be held privately, unlike the cases of Salman Samani and Majid Iranmanesh, and their names have not been made public. According to these reports, hearings for deportation cases are generally held publicly unless the individual in question has applied for asylum. Global News has requested that the court allow public access to the hearings for these former officials of the Islamic Republic. Mark Miller, Canada's Minister of Immigration, announced in a social media post last year that the government had rejected the permanent residency application of Isaac Qalibaf, the son of Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament and a former senior commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. In its latest action against the Islamic Republic, Canada designated the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization on June 30 of this year.
