Nick Bostrom, a well-known expert in the field of artificial intelligence, has confirmed in support of a theory proposed by Stephen Hawking that by the next century, robots and artificial intelligence will surpass humans. During a conference session in Silicon Valley held in Oxford last Sunday, he said: "A hundred years is a long time. We have not even had computers for a hundred years, and the presence of computers in our lives is now 70 years old. But since the first computer, you can see that progress has been very rapid, and perhaps in the next hundred years or even less, the next steps will be taken." He added: "When the intelligence of machines reaches that of humans, a fundamental change will occur in human civilization, and it could even be the most significant event in history for humanity." Nick Bostrom said: "Personally, I believe that when we reach something equivalent to humans, there will be nothing left for machines to become 'superintelligent'. It may take a long time for a machine to reach human-level intelligence, but after that, it won't take long to reach superintelligence, and it will be quick." According to the website "Computer World", he told the attendees of this conference, all of whom were experts and knowledgeable in technology and computing, that: "I think the ability for machines to achieve 'superintelligence' will also bring a lot of power. Just as humans are the most powerful compared to other beings on Earth. We are the most powerful not because we have stronger muscles or more power or sharper teeth. We are powerful because we have better brains." He stated: "If humans create superintelligent machines, regardless of whether they will create a better or worse future, it will be these machines that will shape the future." This warning was also given by Hawking, who previously warned that in the next hundred years, superintelligent computers will replace humans. According to the Financial Times, about 150 companies in Silicon Valley are currently working on artificial intelligence. Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, has also previously warned about the threat of "artificial intelligence in the coming decades" and deemed it a serious danger.
