Rouhalamini announced the prison sentence of Saeed Mortazavi has been sent for execution

Abdul Hossein Rouhalamini, the father of Mohsen Rouhalamini, one of the victims of the 2009 Kahrizak detention center, announced that the prison sentence for Saeed Mortazavi in this case was sent for execution on Wednesday. Mohsen Rouhalamini was arrested on July 9, 2009, amid protests against the announced results of that year's presidential election and was transferred to Kahrizak detention center, where he later died due to severe injuries inflicted by beatings. At that time, Hossein Alaei, former head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the IRGC, quoted Abdul Hossein Rouhalamini as saying, 'They had crushed my son's mouth and he had developed meningitis due to high fever.' In addition to Mohsen Rouhalamini, Mohammad Kamrani and Amir Javadi Far also died in Kahrizak, and two others, Ramin Ghahramani and Ahmad Najati Kargar, died after their release. In this case, Saeed Mortazavi, the then Tehran prosecutor who ordered the transfer of detainees to Kahrizak, was one of the main defendants. On Thursday, March 1, after more than eight years since the incident, Abdul Hossein Rouhalamini, who was a senior advisor to Mohsen Rezai, one of the presidential candidates at the time, announced, 'For eight years, I have been pursuing a grueling legal matter and have come to the experience that even those who do not reach God and the Prophet fear the media. In fact, the media were our allies at critical moments and played a primary role.' Regarding the fate of Saeed Mortazavi's case concerning Kahrizak, he said, 'This led to the issuance of the execution order for the two-year punishment of the Kahrizak case yesterday.' Mr. Rouhalamini noted that 'although this sentence was issued three months ago, its execution was announced yesterday (Wednesday).' He also stated that if Saeed Mortazavi does not present himself for the execution of the sentence, a 'mobile arrest' order will be issued for him. In this regard, Mir Majid Taheri, the lawyer for the Rouhalamini family, also told ISNA that Saeed Mortazavi's sentence regarding the Kahrizak case 'has gone to Branch 2 of the Execution of Sentences of District 28 of the Government Employees Prosecutor's Office for execution.' The lawyer for Mohsen Rouhalamini's family had reported on December 26 of this year that Saeed Mortazavi had been sentenced to two years in prison for complicity in murder. Mr. Mortazavi had been acquitted of the charge of complicity in murder in the initial court, which led to the Rouhalamini family's objection. In the initial court, he was only sentenced to permanent dismissal from judicial services and five years of dismissal from government services for the charge of 'illegal detention' of those he sent to Kahrizak. However, the appeals court found the charge of 'complicity in murder' to be valid against him. After his judicial suspension, Saeed Mortazavi was appointed by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as the head of the Social Security Organization. According to Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei, the spokesperson for the judiciary, aside from the Kahrizak case, Saeed Mortazavi has two other cases related to his management of the Social Security Organization. Additionally, based on an investigation conducted in the sixth parliament, Saeed Mortazavi is one of the main suspects in the case of the death of Zahra Kazemi, an Iranian-Canadian photographer-journalist in 2003. He was a judge of the press court in Iran for years and issued orders to suspend dozens of publications and arrest many journalists.
