Hassan Rouhani, the President of Iran, on Tuesday morning, December 7, referred to the comments of Donald Trump, the elected President of the United States, regarding the nuclear agreement with Iran, saying: "He may want many things, he may want to weaken or tear up the JCPOA, but will we and our nation allow that?" According to Fars News Agency, Rouhani, speaking at the Student Day ceremony at the University of Tehran, stated: "You see that a man has been elected in the US elections and see what noise and instability has arisen in the minds of politicians in Europe, Asia, and parts of the Americas; we are the only country that says we are neither happy nor sad, just as the Supreme Leader said, whatever plans they have will be revealed later." The Iranian President added: "We will continue our own path and we will continue our own course. Yes, he may want many things, he may want to weaken or tear up the JCPOA, but will we and our nation allow that?" He further stated that "America cannot influence our will. Were they able to do that during the imposed war?" With the election of Donald Trump as the new President of the United States, whose term begins next month, at the end of January, the future of the nuclear agreement between Iran and Western powers, known as the JCPOA, faces uncertainty, as he has always described this agreement as a "bad deal" and called for its cancellation during his election campaign. The signing of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, known as the JCPOA, is the result of about 12 years of negotiations between Iran and Western powers, and with the increasing concerns of the Islamic Republic officials about the violation or cancellation of this agreement, the number of warnings from Iranian officials against the violation and cancellation of the JCPOA has also increased. According to Mehr News Agency, Salehi, who is in Austria to participate in the International Conference on Nuclear Security currently taking place in Vienna, stated during the opening ceremony of this conference that "the Islamic Republic of Iran has so far fulfilled its commitments under the JCPOA" and that Iran "will not be the initiator of the violation of commitments." Previously, Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, had also said on June 15 in a meeting with senior officials of the Islamic Republic that "we do not violate the JCPOA, but if the Americans tear it up, we will burn it."
