Rouhani Thanks Leader for 'Unwavering' Support of Nuclear Negotiations

Hassan Rouhani, the President of Iran, in a letter addressed to Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Republic, thanked him for his 'unwavering' support for resolving Iran's nuclear 'issue' through negotiations. According to the state news agency IRNA, Rouhani described the greatest achievement of the negotiations regarding Iran's nuclear program as the 'enthusiasm of world public opinion to engage with Iran.' He also stated that controlling inflation and the beginning of economic recovery in Iran has sent a 'message of the slowing down of sanctions' to the sanctioners, making them 'compelled' to engage in logical negotiations and change the tone of dialogue from 'threat to respect.' Rouhani had previously mentioned in his Nowruz message for the year 1394 that 'there is no longer a race to sanction Iran; today, there is a race to reach an understanding with Iran.' On the first day of Farvardin, the Leader of the Islamic Republic described Barack Obama's Nowruz message as 'insincere' and stated that 'no one' in Iran opposes nuclear negotiations, but everyone is against 'bullying.' Obama had stated in his Nowruz message that there are individuals in both Iran and the United States, and beyond, who oppose a diplomatic solution to the nuclear dispute. The Leader of the Islamic Republic also mentioned: 'Americans repeat that Iran must be irreversible in the decisions it makes and the things it accepts; we do not accept this. This is a domestic and popular industry and must move forward.' Meanwhile, in recent days, some members of parliament and conservative political figures have called for adherence to the Leader's statements regarding Iran's nuclear negotiations with the 5+1 countries. Among them, Ibrahim Karami, referred to as the head of the parliamentary nuclear committee, called the Leader's statements 'the nuclear Uhud pass' that must be protected. 'Uhud Pass' in Islamic narratives recalls an event where Muslims suffered defeat due to not following the Prophet Muhammad's advice and failing to protect a pass named 'Uhud' in a battle of the same name. Karami stated: 'The irreversibility of nuclear activities leads to heavy technical actions and severe restrictions on the nuclear industry. In the event of a breach of commitments by the opposite side, it will take years for Iran to return to previous conditions.' The President of Iran also thanked the Leader for naming the year 1394 as the year of 'Government, Nation, Harmony, and Unity.' Rouhani added: 'This government considers serving all people, regardless of political and factional criteria, its duty and always values constructive criticism as much as wise support and sees itself as needing the thoughts and strategies of all experts in managing the country.' Ayatollah Khamenei, in his speech on the first of Farvardin, asked the government and its supporters not to insult those who, according to him, 'express concern and worry,' adding that 'humiliating opponents by officials is against wisdom and strategy.' The term 'concerned' in Iranian media has been used for critics of Iran's nuclear negotiations with the 1+5 countries following a conference named 'We are Concerned' held on the 13th of Ordibehesht 1393, most of whom are close to the Steadfast Front and hardline conservatives.
