Russia Issues Arrest Warrant for American Senator Lindsey Graham

On Monday, Russia issued an arrest warrant for Lindsey Graham, the Republican senator from South Carolina. According to the Associated Press, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs issued the warrant following the release of a portion of a video featuring Senator Graham discussing Russia's invasion of Ukraine. This edited video was released by the office of Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, who had met and spoken with the American senator on Friday. In the edited video, Graham states that 'the Russians are dying' and describes U.S. military aid to Ukraine as 'the best money we have ever spent.' While it appears that Graham made these remarks in various parts of his conversation with Zelensky, the short video compiled by the Ukrainian presidential office provoked anger in Russia. A spokesperson for Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, reacted to Graham's comments on Sunday, stating, 'It is hard to imagine a greater shame than having such senators in the country.' The highest criminal investigation agency in Russia has opened a criminal case against Graham, and the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs has also issued an arrest warrant for him. Graham is among over 200 U.S. Congress members who were banned from entering Russia last year. He tweeted, 'Knowing that my commitment to Ukraine has angered the Putin regime brings me great joy.' He also stated that he will stand for Ukraine's freedom until Russian soldiers are expelled from Ukrainian territory and considers the warrant issued by the 'corrupt and immoral Putin government' as a badge of honor.
