Russian Air Force and Missile Defense Systems on High Alert in the Far East

A Russian parliamentary representative announced that with the escalation of the crisis on the Korean Peninsula, the country's defense systems in the Far East have been placed on full alert. Viktor Ozerov, a member of the Russian parliament, told the Russian news agency Sputnik: "What is currently happening in North Korea has raised our concerns and necessitated additional measures to protect our territory." This representative added: "Air defense and aerospace forces in the Far East have been strengthened." According to the former head of the Defense and Security Committee of the Russian parliament, the air defense of the country in the Far East is on full alert. North Korea and the United States have threatened each other with severe reactions in the event of hostile actions. Donald Trump, the President of the United States, warned that any action by North Korea would face "fire and fury and a response the likes of which the world has never seen." In response, North Korea announced on Wednesday that it is considering a missile attack near the island of Guam in the Pacific Ocean, which hosts several U.S. military bases. Tensions in the region have escalated to the point that Hawaii and Guam are training citizens for a potential nuclear attack. Viktor Ozerov mentioned the current crisis, stating: "We are monitoring everything that happens around North Korea. More attention is being paid to the range of potential strikes." In reaction to the crisis on the Korean Peninsula, world leaders have called on the parties involved to exercise restraint. Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, urged all parties on Saturday to behave responsibly and "prevent any escalation of tensions." In a statement released by the Élysée Palace on Saturday, Macron said the current situation "disrupts the maintenance of global peace." He also stated that North Korea poses a "serious threat to the security of its neighbors." Meanwhile, Xi Jinping, the President of China, called on both the U.S. and North Korean leaders to exercise restraint during a phone call with his American counterpart. In a statement released by the Chinese Foreign Ministry, it was noted that the President of China said: "At this moment, the parties must exercise restraint and avoid words and actions that would escalate tensions on the Korean Peninsula." However, amid the ongoing verbal tensions between Washington and Pyongyang, the North Korean state newspaper Minju Joson wrote that the United States "finds itself increasingly in a quagmire; in a serious security predicament created by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea for the U.S. This is a tragic comedy of its own making." Shinzo Abe, the Prime Minister of Japan, also stated on Saturday: "I will do everything I can and put all my efforts into protecting the lives and property of the Japanese people." On Friday, Japan announced that it had deployed four Patriot missile defense systems in western Japan. This deployment of missile defense systems in Japan comes amid escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
