Russian Drone Attack on Ukraine; One Person Killed

The Ukrainian Air Force announced on Friday, October 5, that Russia had attacked the country's critical infrastructure in various locations with 19 drones in recent hours. According to Ukrainian officials, the country's air defense shot down 9 Russian drones, and 7 others were likely diverted due to electronic jamming. Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, stated that an apartment building in the capital was damaged but there were no casualties, and the fire was quickly extinguished. Andriy Raikovych, the governor of the region, noted that an office building in central Kirovohrad was also damaged, with one employee suffering minor injuries. Another Ukrainian official reported that Russian forces targeted critical infrastructure, service facilities, and 35 private residences in the southern region of Kherson, resulting in one death and four injuries. Meanwhile, Ukraine claimed on Friday to have attacked a large Russian oil depot in the border region of Voronezh with a drone. Kyiv is targeting Russian energy centers, asserting that they are legitimate targets as they supply fuel to the Russian military. A source in the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) told AFP that an oil depot with 20 fuel tanks was hit. He added that Russian air defense was unsuccessful in repelling this attack, leading to a large fire at the oil facility. Russian emergency services reported a fire in a wide area, although the regional governor had previously stated that Ukraine targeted an empty depot, resulting in a small fire. Russia and Ukraine continuously attack various targets with drones along the front lines and within each other's territories.
