Russian Missile Attacks on Ukraine Leave Several Dead

According to Ukrainian officials, two people were killed and at least three others injured as a result of a Russian missile attack on a residential building in the city of Selydove in eastern Ukraine. The police reported that four S-300 missiles struck six apartment complexes and 20 houses shortly after midnight. Rescuers went to the site to save individuals who might have been trapped under the rubble. Ukrainian officials also stated that two rescuers were killed in the Zaporizhia region of southern Ukraine on Wednesday due to a Russian missile attack while they were trying to extinguish a fire caused by another attack that had occurred minutes earlier. Officials in Zaporizhia reported that Russian forces fired three missiles at the area within a half-hour timeframe. At least seven other people were injured in these attacks, according to officials. They stated that Russia targeted a civilian center, damaging homes, vehicles, and surrounding buildings. On the other hand, Russia acknowledged for the first time on Wednesday that Ukrainian forces crossed the wide Dnipro River and entered occupied areas of the Kherson region. However, Russia claimed it had dispatched more troops to stop the Ukrainians. Kyiv is attempting to establish a new front in the Crimea region, which Russia has annexed. The United States and its Western partners have been among the largest military aid donors to Ukraine, providing billions of dollars in military assistance since the onset of Russia's invasion of Ukraine in March 2022. On Friday, October 20, the White House requested nearly $106 billion from the U.S. Congress to fund programs related to Ukraine, Israel, and U.S. border security. President Joe Biden, in his speech, referred to support for Israel and Ukraine as a national security necessity and a critical moment for the future of U.S. leadership and democracies worldwide, stating, 'American leadership, American allies, and American values make the world more stable and the United States safer, and if America does not support Ukraine or Israel, it jeopardizes those values.'
