Russian Officials Announce Arrest of Another Suspect in Concert Hall Attack Near Moscow

On Thursday, April 9, Russian officials announced the arrest of another suspect in connection with the deadly attack on a concert hall in the Moscow suburbs that has so far resulted in the deaths of 143 people. According to a statement from the Russian government's investigative committee, the arrested individual was involved in financing the attack. The statement did not disclose further details about the identity of this person or their actions. Russian officials had previously reported the arrest of 11 individuals, including four accused of carrying out the attack last Friday. These four, who are citizens of Tajikistan, appeared in a Moscow court on Sunday charged with terrorism. Signs of abuse were visible on the faces of all four defendants, and one of them was barely conscious during the session. Although ISIS Khorasan claimed responsibility for this terrorist attack, Russian officials, including President Vladimir Putin, have linked the attack to Ukraine and the West without providing any evidence. The statement from the Russian investigative committee also claimed that the perpetrators of the attack had received 'significant amounts of money and cryptocurrency from Ukraine' which were used in the 'preparation' for carrying it out. Ukrainian officials have repeatedly stated in recent days that Russia's aim in making these unfounded claims is to escalate attacks against Ukraine. Additionally, Russian health officials announced on Thursday that nearly 70 citizens injured in the attack are still hospitalized, with many in critical condition.
