Sadiq Khan, the Muslim Mayor of London, has expressed his support for the Democratic candidate in the U.S. presidential election, Hillary Clinton. He has also warned that the views of figures like Donald Trump, the Republican candidate, regarding Muslims, could benefit groups like ISIS. According to Reuters, during his first official visit to the U.S. on September 16 in Chicago, he stated that he is a 'fundamental supporter' of Hillary Clinton and hopes she will win in the November elections. Khan described the Democratic candidate as 'certainly the most experienced candidate capable of holding the presidency.' While he did not directly mention Donald Trump during his speech in Chicago, he criticized some of Trump's positions, particularly regarding the strict measures on Muslim entry into the United States. The Mayor of London remarked, 'In my opinion, suggesting that Muslims are not welcomed in America and that being Muslim is incompatible with being Western is something that inadvertently benefits ISIS's goals.' Khan had previously criticized Trump's statements, emphasizing that his views unintentionally favor extremist Islamist groups. In May, Khan stated, 'ISIS and all those people are disgusted by the fact that I was elected as the Mayor of London. Why? Because it contradicts their claims that Western liberal values are incompatible with Islam.' Trump had previously remarked about the Mayor of London, stating that the ban on Muslim entry 'has exceptions: for example, Sadiq Khan,' which drew criticism from Khan. In recent weeks, Trump has modified some of his positions. He is known for his hardline policies on illegal immigration, NATO cooperation, and the entry of Muslims into the U.S. Trump claims that his presidential policies should be based on 'America First.' Recently, he stated that the Muslim entry ban would only apply to countries with a history of terrorism. Some of Trump's policies, including those regarding Muslim entry, have faced criticism from his rival Hillary Clinton, Democratic Party members, and several Republican figures. Critics like Clinton argue that 'the threat to prevent the entry of family and friends of American Muslims, as well as millions of Muslim businessmen or tourists, harms the sentiments of the vast majority of Muslims who love freedom and hate terrorism.'
