Salehi: The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action Monitoring Committee Will Review New US Sanctions

Ali Akbar Salehi, the head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, announced that the 'Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) Monitoring Committee' will convene next week to decide on 'Western positions against Iran's missile program.' On Wednesday evening, January 30, he stated on Iranian state television that the outcome of this meeting will be presented to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic. Salehi also described Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif's stance on this issue as 'appropriate.' A day earlier, Zarif had criticized the new US sanctions against Iran's missile program, attributing them to the US's 'addiction' to 'bullying.' The Foreign Minister strongly condemned the new sanctions. The Supreme Leader had previously emphasized that any new sanctions against Iran 'for any reason' would violate the nuclear agreement after Iran's acceptance and implementation of the deal. Meanwhile, Washington has added 11 individuals and entities to its sanctions list related to Tehran's missile program following the implementation of the JCPOA and the lifting of international sanctions related to Iran's nuclear program.
