Sam Asghari Confirms Separation from Britney Spears: Wishing Her the Best

Sam Asghari, the husband of famous American singer Britney Spears, confirmed their separation through an Instagram story. Mr. Asghari, an Iranian-American actor, model, and athlete, wrote in his story: "After six years of love and commitment to each other, my wife and I have decided to end our journey together. We will maintain love and respect for each other, and I wish her the best." Previously, media reports indicated that Britney Spears and her husband Sam Asghari were separating after 14 months of marriage. On Thursday, the Associated Press reported that Sam Asghari filed for divorce from his wife on Wednesday, August 16. Asghari and Spears met in 2016 while filming the music video for "Slumber Party." Britney Spears and Sam Asghari married in a lavish ceremony in California on July 9, 2022, attended by celebrities such as Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, Paris Hilton, and Madonna. This marriage was seen as a new beginning for Britney Spears, who regained control over her personal and financial affairs after a 13-year legal battle with her father. Although their marriage appeared romantic, sources indicated that they faced significant disagreements and challenges in recent months. Ms. Spears had previously been married twice, first to childhood friend Jason Alexander, which ended in divorce just days later, and her second marriage to Kevin Federline, with whom she has two children, also ended in divorce in 2007. According to Variety, Laura Wasser and Matthew Rosengart, renowned lawyers in Hollywood, will lead Britney Spears' legal team. Kati Amiri-Younsi, an Iranian contract and entertainment lawyer in Los Angeles, told Voice of America that "Sam Asghari filed for divorce due to irreconcilable differences and has requested alimony from Britney Spears, and now this pop singer has a month to respond." Ms. Amiri-Younsi noted that the former couple signed a prenuptial agreement before marriage, which will significantly influence the case's proceedings and the amount requested by Sam Asghari. She reminded that prenuptial agreements, like all contracts, are negotiable and can be modified by mutual agreement over time. According to Ms. Amiri-Younsi, "Based on available information, the prenuptial agreement states that for every two years of marriage, Sam Asghari can receive one million dollars in alimony, but since they separated after 14 months, normally no alimony should be paid to Sam Asghari, and he likely intends to negotiate with Britney Spears regarding this matter."
