Samaneh Yasin, Imprisoned Rapper, Transferred Again to Aminabad Psychiatric Hospital

Samaneh Yasin, the protesting rapper, was transferred again from Qazal Hessar Prison in Karaj to Aminabad Psychiatric Hospital in the city of Rey on Tuesday, March 6. According to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network, Samaneh Yasin (Seydi) announced this news in a brief phone call with his family. This rapper and songwriter from Kermanshah recently wrote in a letter to Gholamhossein Mohseni Eje'i, the head of the judiciary, referring to 18 months of uncertainty and transfers between prisons in Tehran and Karaj: 'You have executed me artificially, taken me to a mental hospital, what else is left to do to me? Take my life too, and be done with it.' He was also transferred to Aminabad Psychiatric Hospital a few days after releasing an audio file about his situation in prison on July 22 of this year. Reports indicate that despite 18 months of detention, this protesting rapper has been deprived of choosing a designated lawyer, no court has been formed to address his case, and his assigned lawyer has also been denied access to his file. Samaneh Yasin, a singer who participated in the nationwide protests last year following the death of Mahsa (Zhina) Amini while in the custody of the morality police, was arrested in October 2022 in Tehran and initially sentenced to death on charges of 'moharebeh' (waging war against God). This sentence was overturned by the Supreme Court, and his case was referred back to court for reconsideration. The United States condemned the torture of Samaneh Yasin, calling it a violation of human rights and contrary to respect for human dignity. Recently, Javaid Rehman, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, described the human rights situation in Iran as a 'bitter reality' and urged the international community not to remain silent in the face of widespread human rights violations in Iran.
