Sara Amiri, Iranian-Origin Citizen, Appointed as UAE Minister of Education

Sara Amiri, a woman whose family migrated from Iran to the United Arab Emirates after the 1979 revolution, has been appointed as the Minister of Education of the UAE. Following her appointment, Sara Amiri expressed gratitude to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for their trust in her, stating that "we will develop the future of education in line with the country's programs based on the desire for progress and development." Sara Amiri's family hails from the Sistan and Baluchestan province in southeastern Iran and moved to the UAE after the 1979 revolution. Previously, Sara Amiri was the head of the UAE Space Agency and the Council of Scientists. Some Iranian social media users reacted to the appointment of an Iranian-origin woman as Minister of Education in the UAE, criticizing the restrictions imposed on women in Iran by the Islamic Republic and questioning: "If Ms. Sara Amiri were in her homeland Iran, could she, due to being a 'woman, Baluch, and Sunni,' reach the position of Minister of Education as she did in her second homeland, the UAE?" Before the 1979 revolution, during the reign of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Farrokhroo Parasa served as Minister of Education from 1968 to 1975 but was executed by the Islamic Revolutionary Court on May 7, 1980, after the establishment of the Islamic Republic.
