Saudi Arabia Executes Prince on Murder Charges

Reports indicate that on Tuesday, the execution of a prince and member of the royal family in Saudi Arabia was carried out on murder charges. According to Reuters, the Saudi Ministry of Interior announced that Prince Turki bin Saud Al Kabir, who shot and killed Adel Al-Muhimid, was executed in Riyadh. This execution of a royal family member is considered a rare phenomenon in the country. According to AFP, with the execution of Turki bin Saud Al Kabir, this marks the 134th execution carried out in Saudi Arabia this year. The statistics on executions this year have been compiled based on statements from the Saudi Ministry of Interior. Reuters reported that previously in 2014, Arab media had reported the execution of a Saudi prince, but the name of that prince was not disclosed. Turki bin Saud Al Kabir was accused of killing one person and injuring another in 2012 at a recreational camp near Riyadh. Arab media reported that this Saudi prince turned himself in to the police after realizing the death of his friends and colleagues. Most executions in Saudi Arabia are carried out by beheading with a sword. According to Amnesty International, Saudi Arabia executed at least 158 people in 2015, placing it third in the world for executions after Iran and Pakistan. However, Amnesty International's statistics do not include China. According to Amnesty International, China has the highest number of executions in the world, but it was not included in the list because it does not disclose the number of executions.
