Saudi Crown Prince Calls for End to War in Gaza

On Friday, November 10, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman called for an end to the war in Gaza. During an African-Saudi summit held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, he stated, "We condemn what Gaza is facing, from military attacks and targeting civilians to violations of international law" by Israel. He added, "We emphasize the necessity of stopping this war and [ending] the forced displacement of Palestinians." Additionally, it was noted that about two weeks ago, the White House announced that President Joe Biden and Mohammed bin Salman discussed efforts to prevent the escalation of conflict between Israel and Hamas. According to the report, Biden and the Saudi Crown Prince welcomed the delivery of humanitarian aid from Egypt to Gaza and emphasized the need for sustainable access for civilians to food, water, and medical assistance. The United States, the European Union, and Japan have designated the Hamas militia, which is supported by the Islamic Republic, as a terrorist organization. Hamas killed about 1,400 people, mostly civilians, in its attack on Israel on October 7 and took about 240 hostages. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights warned that Israel should not use "high-destructive weapons" in Gaza. A UN report indicated that the war has plunged 400,000 people into poverty in Palestinian territories. Netanyahu stated that Israel is not seeking to occupy or administer Gaza.
