Second Day of Exchange; 17 Hostages from Hamas and 39 Palestinian Prisoners Released

Reports indicate the release of 17 Israeli and Thai hostages by Hamas and the release of 39 Palestinian prisoners by Israel. Earlier, the Israeli army and the Qatari Foreign Ministry announced that Hamas delivered 13 Israeli hostages and 4 Thai nationals to the International Committee of the Red Cross on Saturday night, December 4. According to CNN, the ages of the released Israeli hostages range from 3 to 67 years. These hostages were initially transferred to Egypt and then moved to 'Karem Shalom' in Israel. Hamas militants had taken more than 240 individuals hostage during their attack on Israel on October 7 and transported them to Gaza. In return, 33 children and six Palestinian women were also released from Israeli prisons. In this context, Majid Al-Ansari, spokesperson for the Qatari Foreign Ministry, thanked Egypt and the United States for their mediating partnership and joint efforts in removing obstacles to the implementation of the agreement. This Qatari official also attributed the delay in the exchange agreement on the second day to disagreements between Israel and Hamas over the execution of the agreement. Hamas delayed the second exchange of hostages for Palestinian prisoners on Saturday due to 'disputes regarding the number of prisoners to be released and the level of aid to Gaza.' Qatar later announced that this disagreement had been resolved through mediation. Meanwhile, Daniel Hagari, spokesperson for the Israeli army, stated on Saturday night that 'the effort to return the hostages is a moral and ethical duty' of the country, saying, 'We are determined to pursue all avenues to fulfill this duty.' He also noted that the mediators, Egypt and Qatar, are working to realize the framework of the agreement.
