Second Reformist Conference in Less Than a Month

The newspapers Mardomsalari, Etemad, Farhikhtegan, Aftab Yazd, and Arman dedicated their front pages on Saturday to the presence of several reformist figures at the Congress of the Party of People’s Democracy, messages from Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and Mohammad Khatami to this congress, and also Ali Motahari's speech at the event. The newspaper Shargh highlighted the speakers' emphasis on 'the unity of reformists against opportunists.' Mardomsalari reported that 'the thirteenth national congress of the Party of People’s Democracy was held on Thursday at the Adineh Cultural Complex with the slogan 'Reform is Necessary for Moderation.' The newspaper Etemad also focused its front page on the thirteenth congress of the Party of People’s Democracy, emphasizing that 'Ali Motahari and Mohammad Reza Aref sat together in one frame.' However, the newspaper Kayhan described the congress as a platform for attacking 'the institutions of the regime' and stated: 'The congress aimed at elections and covering up the differences among reformists not only failed to conceal the existing disputes but also made its electoral goals clear by attacking the institutions of the regime, including the Guardian Council.' This newspaper also wrote: 'The presence of reformists in the elections, while they have explicitly declared their departure from the law and criteria for a healthy election, raises questions.' Kayhan's front page also reported the appointment of Gholamali Khoshroo as the permanent representative of the Islamic Republic at the United Nations, describing it as 'accepting an insult to the Iranian passport' and calling it 'the government's retreat by changing Iran's representative at the UN.' The newspaper Javan reported on the special envoy of Hassan Rouhani meeting with Vladimir Putin, describing it as part of the preparations for a 'strategic pact' between Iran and Russia. This newspaper also noted: 'The special envoy of the Iranian president to Russia was likely pursuing something beyond mere discussions, as this trip could have been made by sending someone else who did not hold the title of “Advisor to the Supreme Leader on International Affairs.”' The newspaper Iran highlighted the International Monetary Fund's report on Iran's foreign reserves, stating: 'Iran's foreign reserves, which are a combination of a currency basket and accumulated gold, have reached over $126 billion,' placing Iran after 'Saudi Arabia with $734 billion in foreign reserves' and 'Algeria with $187 billion in foreign reserves.' The newspaper Vatan-e-Emruz dedicated its front page to '#Ahvaz' and the air pollution in this city, reporting: 'The people of Khuzestan, suffocated by the dust storm that has been choking them lately, protested on social media with creative dust-written messages against the negligence of officials.' This newspaper also published photos of these dust-written messages, including images showing that on dusty cars, it was written: 'I want to breathe' and 'Mr. Rouhani, we haven't forgotten your promises.' The newspaper Shahrevand reported that 'four female teachers and one male teacher died in a horrific accident on Thursday morning on the Ahar-Tabriz road.' This newspaper named 'Shahin Pourshikh, Biouk Khanom Ghorban Movahed, Yemen Heydari, Masoumeh Ebrahimi, and Alireza Fazli' as the five teachers who lost their lives in this car accident. The experimental implementation of 'water card sales in Khorasan Razavi' is also the front page of Shahrevand. This newspaper wrote: Recently, in the city of Bajestan in Khorasan Razavi province, 'the project of separating the drinking water network from sanitation water' has been executed with the construction of 14 kilometers of water transmission and distribution network, creating 20 water extraction stations, and 'each drinking water distribution station in the city is equipped with a device for charging and selling water cards, allowing citizens to purchase a rechargeable card similar to a metro and bus credit card and use this credit card in the water purchasing device, similar to refueling with a fuel card, to fill their containers with purified water that meets drinking standards.' According to the newspaper Shahrevand, 'the current price for consumers to buy each liter of drinking water is 10 tomans, while the managing director of the Khorasan Razavi Water and Wastewater Company stated that the quality of this water is even better than that of bottled mineral water.'
