Second U.S. Bomber Flight in the Middle East in the Last 48 Hours

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) conducted a special forces bomber mission in the Middle East for the second time in less than 48 hours. CENTCOM stated on social media platform 'X' that this operation 'demonstrates U.S. military power and its cooperation with partner countries in the region.' According to the report, two B-52 bombers took off from Fairford Air Base in the UK, passing through Europe and six countries under CENTCOM's responsibility, conducting aerial refueling and military exercises in designated areas. Additionally, one regional partner country allocated fighter jets to escort the bombers during the mission. On Monday, February 29, the first 'bomber strike group mission' by CENTCOM in the Middle East was carried out to showcase rapid deployment and sustainment capabilities of forces and equipment in the region. In November of last year, several B-52 bombers and refueling aircraft were sent to the region to ensure the continued U.S. military presence during the departure of the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier. B-52 bombers, which have the capability to carry nuclear weapons, have been frequently deployed to the Middle East as a warning to the Islamic Republic. U.S. military assets, particularly in the Red Sea, have played a vital role in neutralizing attacks by Houthi forces supported by the Islamic Republic. The Houthis, recognized as a proxy force of the Islamic Republic, seized Sana'a, the capital of Yemen, in 2014 and have been engaged in conflict with a regional coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the legitimate Yemeni government based in Aden. The Houthis, who were designated as a terrorist organization during Donald Trump's presidency, were removed from this list with the onset of Joe Biden's administration under the justification of 'the possibility of receiving humanitarian aid.' On February 24, Donald Trump issued an executive order announcing the initiation of a review process to designate Yemen's 'Ansar Allah,' known as the Houthis, as a foreign terrorist organization. According to this order, Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, is required to submit a report on this matter to the President within 30 days, after which necessary actions will be taken to officially declare this group as a terrorist organization.
