Security Forces Arrest the Sister of Sattar Beheshti

Reports indicate that Sattar Beheshti's sister, a blogger who died in an Iranian police detention center, was 'arrested' during a ceremony marking her brother's birthday. Human rights activists in Iran say that security agents prevented the anniversary ceremony for Sattar Beheshti and arrested his sister, her husband, and Mohammad Mozaffari, another participant in the event. According to these reports, security forces blocked the street leading to the Beheshti family's home and filmed attendees at the ceremony. They also confiscated identification cards and vehicle registration from some of the attendees. Following the disruption of the ceremony and the arrest of these three individuals, Gohar Eshghi, Sattar Beheshti's mother, and several attendees approached the security police and the intelligence office. However, security agents also took Gohar Eshghi away in a vehicle to another location. Reports indicate that Gohar Eshghi, Mostafa Islami, and Mohammad Mozaffari were released on Friday, but Sahar Beheshti remained in custody until the end of the day. Sattar Beheshti was arrested in 2012 for publishing critical content about the Islamic Republic on his blog and died due to injuries sustained from torture during detention. Ultimately, after much legal wrangling, the court ruled Sattar Beheshti's death as 'quasi-intentional murder' and sentenced his killer, an officer of the police force, to three years in prison.
