Seizure of Passport and Communication Devices of Parastoo Farahvar at Tehran Airport

On the eve of the anniversary of the murder of Parvaneh Eskandari and Dariush Farahvar, victims of the chain murders, Iranian government agents confiscated the passport and communication and electronic devices of Parastoo Farahvar, their daughter, at Tehran Airport. Barbad Golshiri, an artist, wrote in a message on X (formerly Twitter): "Last night at Tehran Airport, Parastoo Farahvar was harassed, her suitcase was searched for one or two hours, and her passport and electronic devices (mobile phone and SIM card, etc.) were confiscated." According to this artist residing abroad, "the phone of the late Parvaneh Eskandari and Dariush Farahvar is also disconnected, and Parastoo has no means to contact anyone." Dariush Farahvar, the Secretary-General of the Iran Nation Party and Minister of Labor in the provisional government, and his wife Parvaneh Eskandari were murdered on December 1, 1998, at their home with multiple stab wounds. At that time, several cultural and political figures in Iran were killed in a targeted massacre by the security institutions of the Islamic Republic, which later became known as the "chain murders." Parastoo Farahvar, the daughter seeking justice for these two victims of the chain murders who resides in Germany, has emphasized her pursuit of justice by traveling to Iran in recent years to commemorate the anniversary of her parents' murder. On the 24th anniversary of her parents' murder, she spoke with Hassan Sarbakhshian about the necessity of public support in achieving the goals of the families of the chain murder victims. On the anniversary of the murder of Parvaneh and Dariush Farahvar in December 2021, she also mentioned the names of "Hamid (Pour) Hajizadeh, Karoun Hajizadeh, Pirouz Davani, Parvaneh Farahvar, Dariush Farahvar, Majid Sharif, Mohammad Mokhtari, and Mohammad Jafar Pouyandeh," stating that their memory is honored "by insisting on seeking justice." While the Ministry of Intelligence admitted in a statement in January 1999 that the chain murders were committed by agents of this ministry, it introduced rogue agents as responsible for these crimes.
